Bursts of colour

In her book The Secret Lives of Colour, Kassia St Clair writes that ‘[a] certain distaste for colour runs through Western culture like a ladder in a stocking’. A distraction from form, dishonest, even sinful – these are some of the many attitudes towards vibrant colour expressed by Westerners, from Herman Melville to Le Corbusier. Colour, when used, was often highly controlled and hugely political … Continue reading Bursts of colour

Under the sea….

We’ve just launched our latest Bledsoe & Bristowe artist-maker collaboration – Ocean Life! More art to wear and art to use. We’re making a range of toiletry bags and our signature Walkabout phone bag featuring Jane Bristowe’s brilliant linocut prints of a sea turtle and whale, swimming in friendly companionship under the sea. There are three sizes of toiletry bags – two medium-sized at £20 … Continue reading Under the sea….

Wearable art

We’re making wearable art with our two new artist-maker collaborations! The Lobster Series and Tonal Dance Bledsoe Bags has teamed up with linoprint artist Jane Bristowe for a limited-edition collaboration – The Lobster Series. Jane is a Fulham-based artist whose work we’ve featured before in our Dog Walkabout bag and our Curious Cat/Ginger Cat storage basket. Wear and re-use, then repeat

We’ve been having fun repurposing some much-loved pieces of clothing we no longer wear – turning vintage skirts and tops into our signature Walkabout phone bags. It actually takes much longer to take something apart and upcycle it than to make something from a pristine piece of fabric, but it’s worth it! We’ve also used some fabulous vintage ties in storage baskets and gadget bags … Continue reading Wear and re-use, then repeat

The dog days are over!

Hello friends and supporters! The dog days are over, and what fun they were! We’ve loved doing this Bledsoe & Bristowe limited edition collaboration with Fulham linocut artist @jane_bristowe! We worked together to have her dog designs printed onto fabric, which we used to make our popular walkabout phone bag and matching facemask. We decided to use the collaboration to support the Mayhew, a charity … Continue reading The dog days are over!

A new community collaboration

In Fulham, we’ve been collaborating with a local artist to produce a limited edition of Bledsoe’s popular walkabout bags and facemasks. Jane Bristowe creates stunning linocut prints that bring out the characters of animals, and we’ve worked with her to produce fabric from her amazingly characterful dog prints. This has been an organically evolving collaboration – the first for us at Bledsoe Bags, and so … Continue reading A new community collaboration
